About the Event
Established in 1925, the Charles Eliot Norton Professorship in Poetry and its distinguished lecture series have for a century have brought to the Harvard community individuals of rare brilliance with particular achievement in language, music, or the visual arts. To commemorate its centenary, Harvard University Press presents five landmark books by John Ashbery, Jorge Luis Borges, Umberto Eco, Ben Shahn, and Igor Stravinsky, based on their Norton lectures, reissued with a new foreword by a distinguished contemporary voice. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Mahindra Humanities Center, and Harvard University Press invite you to join us for a conversation on the vital role of the arts and humanities in public life with Stephanie Burt, Adam Gopnik, Vijay Iyer, and Viet Thanh Nguyen.
This event is co-sponsored by Harvard University Press and the Office of the Dean of Arts & Humanities.
