Vietnamese American Experiences Conference | Santa Clara County Office of Education
Featuring Keynote Speaker, Viet Thanh Nguyen
In partnership with the Orange County Department of Education, the Santa Clara County Office of Education is excited and honored to welcome you to the Vietnamese American Experiences Conference on September 27 and 28, 2024. The presentations featured in this conference will provide attendees with foundational knowledge to prepare them for the implementation of the Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum in their schools, districts, and communities. By the end of the event, K-12 educators will:
- Learn about the Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum and companion resources
- Connect with educators, scholars, community members, and culture bearers, as well as relevant cultural practices and ways of knowing
- Participate in culturally immersive experiences in local communities
The Orange County Department of Education has worked with educators, scholars, and community members to develop this model curriculum, which comprises a collection of primary source documents, planning resources, teaching strategies, professional development activities, and over sixty lesson plans. The Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum will assist educators in teaching about the histories, cultures, traditions and refugee experiences of Vietnamese Americans.
Stipends are available for teachers from contracted districts.
