Meet the DJ
DJ Âm Thanh (Thanh Tân) is a Vietnamese American filmmaker, cultural curator, and DJ based in Seattle. Inspired by her father’s love of music and her mother’s vast collection of Paris By Night shows, she curates vibrant sets that span from rare pre-1975 Vietnamese vinyl to the post-war anthems and medleys that sustained the diaspora. As a longtime journalist and co-founder of SEA Vinyl Society and creator of Kho Tàng Nhạc Vàng / South Vietnam’s Golden Music Archive, Thanh preserves ephemera such as vinyl records and music sheets as a means to reimagine the role that soundscapes and stories can play in connecting younger generations to our complicated collective history — hopefully culminating in more joy, trust and understanding.
